Annie's MusicWhat Kinds of Music Do You Play? It's the first question people ask me, and the answer is complex and is rarely as satisfying as the music itself. My overall sound is really diverse. The Music Sampler at the right will give you a good idea of what goes into the mix, and having a listen is just about the best way to get to know my style. If you can come up with a single phrase that encompases all that, please shoot me a note and I'll start using it! I also love a good cover tune. Favs include Smithereens, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Yaz and Emmylou Harris to name a few. Are You in a Band?Yes! And yes. And yes. My own band is Rocket Girl and consists of the father-and-son team of Jeff Wallace on bass and Jon Wallace on guitar, and the chick drummer, April Samuels. We have a driving alt-Americana sound that makes your body want to move. Glitterhorn is made up of myself and two of my best girlfriends, Lisa Turek and Collie Roberts. Our sound is very girl-pop with lots of Beatles-influenced harmonies.
I also sing and play flute with Rahim Quazi and his band. DJ Veronica de la Cruz of 93.3 The Bone here in Dallas happened to be at a show we played at the Granada and remarked on the air the next morning that it was nice to know we had a chick in town who could play kick-ass flute like Ian Anderson! Recently I've been playing classical flute duets with Lee Schloss. You can catch us at highbrow places like the Dallas Museum of Art. Where Do You Play? You can find me playing solo is all sorts of places like coffee houses, festivals, special events (like Earth Day), clubs, the occasional bar, listening rooms, and recently even places like the cafe at Whole Foods Market and the Dallas Museum of Art. Where Does It All Come From?Sometimes I have to really work for a song, and sometimes they come to me about as fast as I can write 'em down. This Music page will be expanding to a whole section of the site, with lyrics, pages from my writing notebook, and whatever else I can think of that you might enjoy. |
